O Ahmad, can our eyes meet

    your fair Harithi face?

nor have we been granted the pleasure of evening company.

have found estrangement to be a wrongdoer's deed.

Stand by one close to you in lineage and affection,

for loyalty is owed to one who shares your kunya.

Indeed, by the forty, they have been sought

with no one slow to rise or sluggish.

Shoulder, generously, the burden of that request

on behalf of the generous chief, Abu Ali.

For an old camel sometimes has

its extra load transferred to a vigorous young camel.

And Jupiter's light is a gift that aids

the shining moon's radiance with its splendor.

He is the season's first rain and has poured generously; so be the rain that follows,

for the first rain avails only with the following rain.
