وَجَرىand flew بَعدَafter ذاكَthat طَيرُbirds السُعودِgood fortune
وَجَرى بَعدَ ذاكَ طَيرُ السُعودِ
The one I had loved stubbornly persisted in turning away.
The one I loved has spurned me after ardour
And afterward the birds of good fortune flew.
And then the bird of fortune took its flight
وَقَضىand decreed اللَهُGod أَنthat أَذوبَI melt وَأَبلىand waste away
وَقَضى اللَهُ أَن أَذوبَ وَأَبلى
وَالبَلىand decay مِنfrom وَراءِbehind كُلِّevery جَديدِnew thing
وَالبَلى مِن وَراءِ كُلِّ جَديدِ
And God decreed that I should melt and waste away,
God has decreed that I should melt and waste
and decay lies behind everything new.
And wasting comes on everythingbrand-new

دِ وَلَيسَ القَريبُ مِثلَ البَعيدِ
And love in youth is near to sound judgment,
In youth the fancy for the fair is linked
and what is near is not like what is far.
To sprightliness; and far unlike is near

Perchance I was a suitor of sweet maids
madly enamored of every fair-skinned, supple woman.
And coveted them all, both dark and bright

And both of us are victims of wood aloes

And both of us the zephyr had imbued
the pride of Isa, son of Khalid, son of al-Walid:
With fragrance - Eisa son of Khalid son of Walid
