My eye is too restless for sleep.

My eyes denied sleep,

And so many troubled thoughts have jolted me awake.

And worries overwhelmed me.

وأشبح متى عقرب الساعة

يطوي ظلام الكدر عني

And I watch: when will the clock’s hand

When will the clock's hand

Fold sorrow’s darkness away from me?

Roll back the gloomy darkness from me?

ما ارتاح يوم ابعدوا مني

My heart was frightened by hope’s fading.

My heart was disturbed by vanishing hope.

It found no rest the day they went away from me.

It hasn't rested since you left me.

وقفت انا لحظة وداعه

أبكي .. وأنا ضاحك سني

I stood at the moment of his farewell,

I stood at the moment of parting

Weeping, though my teeth were smiling.

Crying..though my teeth were laughing.

مسكين من صاحبه باعه

مسكين من صاحبه باعه

وعيّن لياليه يشرني

وعيّن لياليه يشرني

Poor is the one whose companion sold him,

Wretched is he who was sold by his friend

And his nights refused to buy me back.

And left his nights to mock me.
