يالليO you who قصيديmy poetry فيكabout you منfrom حرthe heat of الأنفاسthe breaths
I want to breathe as long as I have the right to breathe.
O one whom as long as I have breath I have a right,
O you, my verses about you come from the heat of my breath.
You for whom my poem flows with the heat of breath,
واللهby God يالولاwere it not for عبرةthe tear of الحبرthe ink الأزرقblue
دمعٍtears نثرتهI scattered them منfrom عذابيmy torment بقرطاسonto a sheet of paper
By God, were it not for the tear of blue ink—
By God, O joy, the ink flows blue
Tears I scattered from my torment onto a sheet of paper—
With tears I spilled from my torment onto parchment
لاأقولI would surely say أحبكI love you .. لينuntil بدموعيon my tears اشرقI choke
وقبلand before الصديقthe friend يحسwould feel بيfor me نايدthe most distant of الناسpeople
I would say 'I love you' until I choked on my tears,
I won't say "I love you" until with my tears the dawn breaks
And the most distant of people would feel for me before a friend.
And before a friend feels me, people notice

How long must being with you be stolen from life?
How long? Your life is stolen
Between me and you—between me and union—stand a door and guards.
Without you and without union, a door and guards

As for me, the sun thirsts and sweats on my brow;
The sun in my forehead is extinguished and sweats
And you, in the heat of high summer, are relief from thirst and a gentle breeze.
While you in the cool shade have breeze and forgetfulness
