فَما يُغالِبُنا حُزنٌ عَلى طَرَبِ
Our joy in you outweighs sorrow at calamities;
Our joy in you transcends worries in adversities,
So no grief overcomes us amid delight.
No sorrow can overcome us in delight.

مِن واجِبِ الشُكرِ أَن يُرتاعُ مَن سَبَبِ
If the decrees of fate have spared you, is it then
If fortunes turn away from you, is it
A duty of gratitude to take fright at some cause?
A duty of gratitude for the cause to be fearful?

How long will the world deceive us with its plumage,
Until fate deceives us with its glamour,
Yet not let us attain any desire from it?
And we gain no profit from it.

We delight in what comes from it, whose consequences are reaped
We are pleased with it for what its consequences reap,
As sorrow; and we flee while our appointed deaths give chase.
Worry and we flee, while time pursues.
