ياO طَيفُphantom مَنthe one who أَناI عَبدهُhis slave مِنfrom أَينَwhere ليfor me
شُكرٌgratitude يَقومُsuffices بِبَعضِfor some of ماwhat توليهِyou bestow it
O phantom of him whose slave I am, where can I find
O phantom of whom I am a slave from where
gratitude sufficient for some of what you bestow?
Do I have gratitude that can fulfill some of what you bestow?
يَنأىhe grows distant فَتُدنيهِyet you bring him near عَلىdespite النَوىseparation
فَأَراهُso I see him كَالتَحقيقِlike reality فيwithin التَشبيهِlikeness
He grows distant, yet you bring him near despite the separation,
You distance yourself then draw near according to intention
so I see him as reality within a likeness.
So I see you like reality in a simile
ماhow كانَwould be أَحسَنَbetter حالَتيmy lot لَوif أَنthat ماwhat
أوتيتَyou were granted مِنof كَرَمٍgenerosity وَعَطفٍand tenderness فيهِin him
How much better my lot would be if what
My state would not have been better if what
you were granted of generosity and tenderness were in him!
I was given of generosity and kindness in it
