لَقَدindeed عَزَّbecame elusive العَزاءُconsolation عَلَيَّto me لَمّاwhen
لَقَد عَزَّ العَزاءُ عَلَيَّ لَمّا
تَصَدّىconfronted ليto me لِتَقتلنيto kill me الصُدودُrejection
تَصَدّى لي لِتَقتلني الصُدودُ
Indeed, consolation eluded me when
Comfort was made difficult for me when
rejection confronted me to kill me.
The beloved turned against me, seeking to slay me.
إِذاwhen بَعُدَis far away الحَبيبُthe beloved فَكُلُّthen every شَىءٍthing
إِذا بَعُدَ الحَبيبُ فَكُلُّ شَىءٍ
مِنَof الدُنياthe world وَلَذّتُهاand its pleasure بَعيدُfar away
مِنَ الدُنيا وَلَذّتُها بَعيدُ
When the beloved is far away, everything
When the beloved is distant, everything
in the world, along with its pleasure, is far away.
In this world and its pleasures feels remote.
