قَدindeed كانَwas أَحسَنَbest شَيءٍthing بَعدَafter بُعدِهِمtheir absence
قَد كانَ أَحسَنَ شَيءٍ بَعدَ بُعدِهِم
بِروحٍfor a soul مِثلَكَlike you أَنto تَنأَىdraw away عَنِfrom الجَسَدِthe body
بِروحٍ مِثلَكَ أَن تَنأَى عَنِ الجَسَدِ
Indeed, after they were gone, the best thing was
It was best after their absence
for a soul like yours to depart from the body.
For a soul like yours to withdraw from the body
هُمthey بِالوِصالِthrough reunion أَعادوهاthey restored it إِلَيكَto you فَلمso why
هُم بِالوِصالِ أَعادوها إِلَيكَ فَلم
ذَخَرتَهاyou reserved it بَعدَهُمafter them لِلصَبرِfor patience وَالجَلَدِand fortitude
ذَخَرتَها بَعدَهُم لِلصَبرِ وَالجَلَدِ
They restored it to you through reunion; so why
They, by joining, returned it to you but you
did you reserve it, after they were gone, for patience and fortitude?
Did not hoard it after them, for patience and composure
وَعَدتَyou promised بِالدَمعِwith tears تَعليلاًsolace كَأَنَّكَas though you قَدhad
وَعَدتَ بِالدَمعِ تَعليلاً كَأَنَّكَ قَد
أَظهَرتَyou revealed ماwhat لَيسَis not مَوجوداًfound لَدىwith أَحَدِanyone
أَظهَرتَ ما لَيسَ مَوجوداً لَدى أَحَدِ
You promised solace through tears, as though you had
And you returned with tears as proof as if you had
revealed what no one possesses.
