مَحروسَةٌsafeguarded ضَمِنَguaranteed الشُكرُgratitude الوَفِيُّfaithful لَهاfor it
مَحروسَةٌ ضَمِنَ الشُكرُ الوَفِيُّ لَها
عَنِon behalf of الزِيادَةِincrease نَيلَattainment السُؤلِthe desired goal فيin الدَرَكِachievement
عَنِ الزِيادَةِ نَيلَ السُؤلِ في الدَرَكِ
Safeguarded—faithful gratitude has guaranteed it,
on increase’s behalf, success in attaining its desire.
تَحَقَّقَascertained الدَهرُTime أَنَّthat المُلكَkingship مُنذُsince نَشاit arose
تَحَقَّقَ الدَهرُ أَنَّ المُلكَ مُنذُ نَشا
لَهُfor it أَبوAbu (father of) تَغلِبَTaghlib اِسمٌa name غَيرُnot مُشتَركِshared
لَهُ أَبو تَغلِبَ اِسمٌ غَيرُ مُشتَركِ
Time has learned for certain that kingship, ever since it arose,
has borne Abu Taghlib as a name shared by none.
وَاِستَخلَفَand appointed as deputy الفَلَكُthe celestial sphere الدَوّارُrevolving هِمَّتَهُhis resolve
وَاِستَخلَفَ الفَلَكُ الدَوّارُ هِمَّتَهُ
فَلَوso if وَنىit faltered أَغنَتwould suffice for الدُنياthe world عَنِin place of الفَلَكِthe celestial sphere
فَلَو وَنى أَغنَت الدُنيا عَنِ الفَلَكِ
And the revolving celestial sphere appointed his resolve its deputy;
so, were it to falter, his resolve would spare the world the need for the sphere.
