فَمِن نَظَرٍ يُسارِعُ في صَلاحي

فَمِن نَظَرٍ يُسارِعُ في صَلاحي

وَمِن وَصفٍ يَحُثُّ عَلى نِفاقي

وَمِن وَصفٍ يَحُثُّ عَلى نِفاقي

So, from consideration that hastens my well-being,

and from praise that spurs my hypocrisy;

فَإِنعامُ أَسرُ مِنَ التَداني

فَإِنعامُ أَسرُ مِنَ التَداني

عَلى عُدمٍ أَفظُّ مِنَ الفِراقِ

عَلى عُدمٍ أَفظُّ مِنَ الفِراقِ

for generosity is more pleasing than closeness

amid poverty—harsher than separation.
