وَهَلand would …? يَترُكُabandon التَأييدُsupport خِدمَةَservice عَسكَرٍan army
وَهَل يَترُكُ التَأييدُ خِدمَةَ عَسكَرٍ
وَإِقدامُand the daring of سَيفِSayf (sword) الدَولَةِal-Dawla (the state) العَضبِthe keen-edged قائِدُهُits commander
وَإِقدامُ سَيفِ الدَولَةِ العَضبِ قائِدُهُ
And would aid ever cease to serve an army,
Would the support ever abandon serving an army,
When the daring of Sayf al-Dawla, the keen blade, is its commander?
And the brave sword of the state leave its leader?
عَفَتspared عَنfrom سَمَندوSamandu خَيلِهِhis cavalry وَتَنَجَّزَتand exacted fulfillment
عَفَت عَن سَمَندو خَيلِهِ وَتَنَجَّزَت
بِخَرشَنَةٍat Kharshana ماwhat قَدَّمَتهُhad offered it beforehand مَواعِدُهُhis promises
بِخَرشَنَةٍ ما قَدَّمَتهُ مَواعِدُهُ
His cavalry spared Samandu and exacted
His horses have abstained from fodder,
At Kharshana what his promises had offered beforehand.
To fulfill with Khurshan what its promises entail.
وَزارَتand visited بِهِwith him فيin مَوطِنthe land of الكُفرِunbelief حَيثُwhere لاnot
وَزارَت بِهِ في مَوطِن الكُفرِ حَيثُ لا
يُشاهِدُbeholds إِلّاexcept بِالرِماحِwith spears مَشاهِدُهُits sights
يُشاهِدُ إِلّا بِالرِماحِ مَشاهِدُهُ
And with him they visited the land of unbelief, where none
It has raided the land of disbelief, where nothing is seen
Beholds its sights except with spears.
Except by spears what scenes unfold.
