إذا شكرت الذي أعطى بلا عدةٍ

فكيف أشكر من أعطى ولم يعد

If I have thanked the one who gave without prior promise,

If I thank the one who gave without a promise,

how, then, can I thank the one who gave beyond all count?

then how shall I thank one who gave and did not promise?

هذا الثناء على قرب المزار وإن

هذا الثناء على قرب المزار وإن

فقدتني فاعتقادي غير مفتقد

فقدتني فاعتقادي غير مفتقد

This praise is measured by the measure of my visit; though

This praise is offered while you are near enough to visit; and even if

I may be absent, my conviction is never absent.

you miss me, my devotion will not be missing.

وما المحافظ من يثني على قربٍ

وما المحافظ من يثني على قربٍ

بل المحافظ من يثني على بعد

بل المحافظ من يثني على بعد

The truly faithful is not one who praises while near,

And the steadfast one is not he who praises when near,

but the truly faithful is one who praises from afar.
