Your bounty, when the clouds grow stingy, is a rain cloud;
Your bounty, when the clouds withhold rain, is a rain cloud.
Your resolve, if the sword be blunted, is a sword.
And your resolve, if the sword is blunted, is a sword.

فَهذا يَنيلُ الرِزق وَهُوَ مُمَنَّع

وَذاكَ يرَدُّ الجَيشَ وَهُوَ لُهامُ
The first brings sustenance within reach, though it be withheld;
So the one grants sustenance, even when it is hard to obtain,
The latter turns back the host, though vast.
And the other repels the army, even when it is vast.

Whoever pursues his foes with wealth and blades,
And whoever pursues enemies with wealth and sword blades,
And with good fortune, finds no aim beyond his reach.
and with good fortune, finds no goal beyond his reach.
