عَجَباًhow strange! ليfor me وَقَدand indeed مَرَرتُI passed بِأَبياتِكَby your dwellings
عَجَباً لي وَقَد مَرَرتُ بِأَبياتِكَ
كَيفَhow اِهتَدَيتُI found my way سُبُلَpaths الطَريقِthe road
كَيفَ اِهتَدَيتُ سُبُلَ الطَريقِ
I marvel at myself, having passed by your dwellings:
I wonder as I passed by your verses
how did I find my way along the road?
How I found the paths of the road
أَتَرانيdo you think I نَسيتُI forgot عَهدَكَmy time with you فيهاthere
أَتَراني نَسيتُ عَهدَكَ فيها
صَدَقواthey spoke truly ماthere is no لَميتٍfor a dead man مِنany صَديقِfriend
صَدَقوا ما لَميتٍ مِن صَديقِ
Do you think I have forgotten my time with you there?
Do you think I forgot our promise therein
They spoke truly: a dead man has no friend.
They were truthful, a dead man has no friend
