يُلمُّ بي راقداً ما ساءني سَهَري
Were it not for an awaited visitation of a phantom of you,
Had it not been for the flashes of your imagination that I await
coming to me asleep, my sleeplessness would not distress me.
The sight of you would not have saddened my vigil

Though my eye is empty of you when you keep it awake,
Even if my eyes were empty of you when sleeplessness kept them awake
long yearning does not banish you from my thoughts.
The length of passion for you doesn't empty them of thought about you

You dwell forever in my sight if you visit me,
You settle permanently in my sight whenever you visit me
held in honor, and in my thoughts if you do not visit.
With glory, and in my mind whenever you don't visit

upon my inner vision or upon my outward sight.
Either to insight from me or to eyesight

If you visit my eye and heart, alighting in both,
If your eyelids and heart covered them coming down to them
then eye and heart are each a dwelling of the moon.
Then the eyelids and heart are like the moon coming down

If the phantom visits my eye while it weeps,
If the phantom comes over my weeping eyes
the full moon journeys through rain-bearing cloud.
The full moon moves in the clouds and it has rain

My life! Eyes were fascinated when he moved
as a full moon, yet went unseen when it visited before dawn.
Like a full moon and didn't see because he came at dawn

Then it passed me in the doze it had brought,
So he passed by me while I was sleeping which he brought on me
and I rose weeping tears that were then pearls.
And I got up crying with flowing tears

As though my eyelid, to honor its visitor,
As if to honor its visitor my eyelids
had become a scatterer of pearls at his feet.
Became, at its feet, sprinkling pearls

A greeting arrives from the sands' yellow wildflowers,
It's a greeting from the virgins of the sand, arriving
as the caravan emerges from the landmarks of Dhu Baqar.
And the caravan appears from the banners of Dhi Baqar

over the tracks of a scented hem in the protected pasture.

How often have I visited them and the protectors of the living prevented
fair beauties with bright swords, or dusky beauties with brown spears.
The whites with whites or the browns with browns

Between the watcher and accustomed company from caution

By God, horses of tears that run their drooling

Are my eyelids and the drops of tears like pearls

by frontrunners among those steeds, always at a gallop.

It tells the banner of Banu Abbas the day of battle
when it appears with the Turkish armies following behind.
When it appears and the Turkic troops behind

O most capable of people, rise for God so be victorious!

So religion has frowned hiding the face of the oppressed
and truth conceals itself like one in hiding.
And truth has become revealing the person of the hidden

A shepherd who spends the night caring for the furthest of his flock
his heart is like the wing of a wary bird.
His heart is like the wing of the cautious bird
