هذا الوزيرُ الأجَلُّ

هذا الوزيرُ الأجَلُّ

ما في مَطاويهِ غِلُّ

ما في مَطاويهِ غِلُّ

This most illustrious minister—

This honorable minister

there is no malice in his inner folds.

Has no malice in his intentions

الشّرّ فيه قليلٌ

الشّرّ فيه قليلٌ

والخَيرُ فيه أَقَلّ

والخَيرُ فيه أَقَلّ

There is little evil in him,

Evil in him is little

and even less good.

And good in him is less

وإنّه لو علِمْتُمْ

وإنّه لو علِمْتُمْ

بَعْدُ الأَعزُّ الأَذَلّ

بَعْدُ الأَعزُّ الأَذَلّ

And indeed he, if you but knew,

And if you knew

is, moreover, the most honored, the most abased.

Later on the mightiest becomes the lowest
