They struck hearts with their longings—
The hearts cast their passions
gazelles that hunt with their eyes.
Like gazelles hunting with their eyelids

The glance wanders, perplexed by her beauty
tears held back and tears poured forth.
Imprisoned by tears and flowing freely

She shot the heart of every man with love
ailing in his breast, his ribs aflutter.
Fluttering the wings of the infirm

So why don't eyes that are lovesick like her
these eyes, ailing as their lovers are?
Soften for her counterparts?

to keep little faith with a beloved.
To rarely keep a pact despite intimacy

Their seeker's body is wasting's inner garment,
The brand of sorrow marks her body
and their longing lover's heart the prey of anguish.
While the plunder of ardour marks her heart

She laments the absence of her friends
and reveal their hidden longings.
And reveals her hidden passions

so they loosened the circles of their collars.

They wore mourning and tore it
and nothing held together but their neckbands.
So that nothing remained but their throats

They had drained their tears in love,
She shed her tears of passion in love
so no moisture remained in their eye-corners.
Without any water left for her Flask

She came in the morning of Separation until she quenched
out of grief, the verses of their cawing birds.
The heat of her longing at the water-skin

as master poets and their adepts do.

They judged an a-vowel on the rhyme-letter faulty,
But she mispronounced the end rhyme
so they gave their utterance's endings a u-vowel.
So she closed with the vowels of her recital

amulets wound about their necks.
Twisted around their necks

She prolonged the simile of ecstasy

We have recounted the conversations of the people of guidance

When you saw learning fallen into stagnation,
You cared to invigorate their markets
you took care to revive its markets.

You rescued its last breath of life
And showed the novelty of its morals
and revealed freshness in its worn-out robes.
You authorized a gentle palm

And you charged a generous hand with tending it,
To collect them and its papers
with its gold and its silver,
As a preacher rides reciting

as a cloud rises, covering all,
With its rain and lightning
with its rain and its lightning.

And disturbed those criticizing it
and scattered its settled renegades.

so you could not bear to let it grow threadbare.

guiding the path for its travelers.

A rising that illuminates with its orbit
rising, shedding light amid their gathered ranks.
Strangely, the stars shine

And your left hand is the key to their locks
and your left is the key to their locks.
