I had nothing in al-Khuz but
a house, a stipend, and poems.
A house, a stream, and some poems.

And hunger there began to distract
And hunger preoccupied me -
my thoughts from composing poems.
My thoughts couldn't make poems.

Of poems, a stream, a house.
