للهِto God درُّابنthe excellence of the son of خالدٍKhalid فلقدfor indeed
للهِ درُّابن خالدٍ فلقد
ردَّhe restored لناto us الجُوْدَgenerosity بعدماafter ذهباit had vanished
ردَّ لنا الجُوْدَ بعدما ذهبا
How admirable is Ibn Khalid! For indeed
To the glory of Khalid's generous son!
he restored generosity to us after it had vanished.
He brought back to us openhandedness after it had gone.
سألتُهI asked him خَيمةًa tent يجودُhe gives generously بهاwith it
سألتُه خَيمةً يجودُ بها
فجادso he gave generously ليto me مِلءthe full capacity of خيمةٍa tent ذهَباgold
فجاد لي مِلء خيمةٍ ذهَبا
I asked him for a tent he might bestow,
I asked him for a tent to give away generously,
so he gave me a tentful of gold.
So he gave me a tent filled with gold.
