يا خائضاً في الأمرِ وهْو يُحبُّ أن

تَغدو له عُقْباهُ نَصْبَ العَينِ

O you who plunge into an affair, wishing that

O you who delve into a matter, wishing that

its outcome might remain plainly before your eyes,

its outcome may stand before your eyes,

اقْرِنْ برأيكَ رأْيَ غيرِك واسْتشرْ

اقْرِنْ برأيكَ رأْيَ غيرِك واسْتشرْ

فالحقُّ لا يَخفَى على رَأيَيْن

فالحقُّ لا يَخفَى على رَأيَيْن

join another’s judgment to your own, and seek counsel—

فالمرءُ مِرآةٌ تُريهِ وجْهَه

فالمرءُ مِرآةٌ تُريهِ وجْهَه

ويَرى قَفاهُ بجَمْعِ مرآتَيْن

For a person is a mirror that shows him his face,

يا قلبُ تَخلَّ من هُموم وشُجونْ

بادر فُرَصَ الزّمانِ من قَبْلِ يَخونْ

O heart, free yourself from cares and sorrows;

لا تأْسَ فإنَّ حَمْلكَ الهمَّ جُنون

ما قُدّر أن يكونَ لابدَّ يكون

Do not grieve, for bearing the burden of worry is madness;

Do not grieve, for carrying worry is madness.

whatever is decreed to be must be.

What has been decreed to happen must happen.
