To you I complained of Time, O best of its people,

so that you might aid me against the misfortunes of Time.

So let my enemies not hear that, having a need,

I came to Abu Nasr for it, and he refused me aid.

Rather, people ought to remember that I sought

his help in my affair, and so my standing rose.

So remind Wajih al-Mulk of his earlier promise:

some benefit must accompany the reminder.

I have hopes in him, yet now all I need

of his bounty is a written order for a measure of wheat.
