وافىarrived كِتابٌa letter مِنfrom فَتىa young man كَرَمِgenerosity
وافى كِتابٌ مِن فَتى كَرَمِ
فَلَثَمتُso I kissed مِنهُfrom it مَجارِيَthe traces of القَلَمِthe pen
فَلَثَمتُ مِنهُ مَجارِيَ القَلَمِ
A letter arrived from a generous young man.
A letter arrived from a noble youth,
So I kissed the pen's traces upon it,
So I drank from the streams of his pen,
مُتَطَوِّقاًwearing a necklace لِلبِرِّfor kindness مِنfrom يَدِهِhis hand
مُتَطَوِّقاً لِلبِرِّ مِن يَدِهِ
وَمُقَرَّطاًand adorned with earrings بِالدُرِّwith pearls مِنfrom كَلِمِwords
وَمُقَرَّطاً بِالدُرِّ مِن كَلِمِ
Wearing the kindness from his hand as a necklace,
Adorned with his righteous deeds,
And pearls from his words as earrings.
And studded with his word pearls.
شَرَفٌan honor لِدينِto the faith of اللَهِGod شَرَّفَنيhonored me
شَرَفٌ لِدينِ اللَهِ شَرَّفَني
لاmay he not زالَcease يوليbestow أَسبَغَthe most abundant of النِعَمِblessings
لا زالَ يولي أَسبَغَ النِعَمِ
An honor to God's faith has honored me;
An honor for Allah's religion, he honored me,
May he never cease bestowing the most abundant blessings.
Continues to bestow abundant bounty,
وَأَحَلَّنيand he placed me بِعُلُوِّthrough the loftiness of هِمَّتِهِhis resolve
وَأَحَلَّني بِعُلُوِّ هِمَّتِهِ
فَوقَabove الَّذيthat which تَسموsoar لَهُtoward it هِمَميmy aspirations
فَوقَ الَّذي تَسمو لَهُ هِمَمي
And through his lofty resolve he has placed me
And raised me with his high aspiration,
Above the height to which my aspirations soar.
Above what my own aspirations aimed for.
وَكَذاكَand thus يوليbestows فَضلَthe bounty of أَنعُمِهِhis favors
وَكَذاكَ يولي فَضلَ أَنعُمِهِ
أَعلىthe highest of المَواليpatrons أَصغَرَthe least of الخَدَمِservants
أَعلى المَوالي أَصغَرَ الخَدَمِ
And thus the bounty of his favors is bestowed
Likewise does he bestow his superior favor,
By the highest of patrons upon the least of servants.
Upon the highest allies and the lowliest servants.
