Ask, you two, the traces that remained after they departed:
She erected provisions after they had marched on,
Have they any tidings of the clan’s whereabouts?
At her abode she had news of the living.
ورَوّحاand relieve, you two عاتقيmy shoulder منfrom حَمْلِهاits bearing مِنَناًfavors

للسُّحْبِ فيها وفي الأجفانِ إسْآر
And ease my shoulder of its burden of favors;
She waved farewell to me out of kindness,
the clouds have remnants there and in the eyelids.
With clouds in her eyes and eyelids flowing with tears.

عنِto الملامِreproach هوىًout of love والدّمعُand tears مدرارflowing copiously
عنِ الملامِ هوىً والدّمعُ مدرار
A dwelling where I stood, my hearing closed
I stood in an enclosure, hearing soaked up
to reproach out of love, while tears poured forth.
From blame, passionate love, and copious tears.
كأنّنيas though I were واضعاًlaying خَدِّيmy cheek بهupon it قَلَمٌa pen
كأنّني واضعاً خَدِّي به قَلَمٌ
أبكِيI weep أسىًin sorrow ورُسومُand the traces الدّارِof the dwelling أسطارlines of writing
أبكِي أسىً ورُسومُ الدّارِ أسطار
As I lay my cheek upon it, I am like a pen:
As if when I placed my cheek against it, a pen
I weep in sorrow, and the dwelling’s traces are lines.
Made me weep with sorrow and the house decorations lines.
