وبجُودِ كَفِّك من سَحابٍ مُسْبِلِ
Welcome to your face, a morning drawing near,
Welcome, your face brings a new dawn
and to your hand's generosity, a cloud pouring rain.
Your generous palm, a pouring cloud
وإذاand when الصّباحُthe morning معَwith السّحابِthe cloud تَرافَقاaccompanied each other

And when morning and cloud accompany one another,
When dawn and cloud move together
traveling side by side toward the landmarks of my dwelling,
Two companions towards my abode

those places are blessed: every darkened gathering-place shines
They bring joy, so each dark place lights up
among them, and every barren valley grows fertile.
Each barren valley turns fertile again

When he appeared like a cheerful full moon

Blessing in that right hand, so kiss it

Except a tamed steed of excellent stock
which he cast from it among those fingers?
He let it loose between those sand dunes

With the stars as its high watering places

He rode far on it, yet brought the farthest hopes near,
It kept away, but drew near to the far goal
for he could not have alighted had he not departed.
Since it could not stay if it did not depart

Never did they send the sure-aimed man of Hashim's realm
When they plotted against the Hashimite state
against a calamity only for him to miss its vital spot.
He made their every attempt go wrong

Through his effort, the rule of both dynasties was secured
and through his decisive resolve, the blade's keenness.
By his resolute past, the polished blade dispelled

While the earth is still for its everlasting cycles
repeated by a celestial sphere high above it.
Above which a planet constantly turns

Without you, souls were in anguish and at dawn
throughout humankind, with little consolation.
Creation was left with little consolation

You left Baghdad, and the rising-place of its sun,
You left Baghdad though it was your sunrise
in its inhabitants' eyes, was the road to Mosul.
And in the eyes of its dwellers, the road to Mosul

You arrived as the blessed fast was approaching;
You came as the blessed fast was approaching
so rejoice in a fast whose feast is at its beginning.
So delight in a fast whose feast is early

Until you rose with good fortune, so those sorrows
those calamities began to vanish from sight.
Were unveiled from sights and started to disappear

Hail to you, a moon unveiled, while humankind
You were greeted by a moon that shone, and creation
lay bewildered as though in a pitch-dark night.
Was confused as if it were an obscure night

His procession emerged, and the prime of his face
grew brighter in the darkness of billowing dust.
Grew brighter in the darkness of nightfall

toward his full moon, revealed in perfect fullness.
To a full moon that had emerged

They paved his way with the brocade of their cheeks
out of love for him, an arrival warmly welcomed.
Loving one who was newly arrived

People hit the ground with their brows

They would walk to you with dot-like steps
on their heads, not with a footborne gait on their legs.
By essence, not with feet touching the ground

So may your blessed return endure, as you always
humankind always be spared, through you, every intractable calamity.
Relieve the world of every troubling matter

Ascend with honor built to last

Your fame has never ridden the horizons as a horseman
Never did your fame as a knight travel the horizons
except upon a white-blazed, white-stockinged day.
Except on a splendid day of high assembly

Through you the imam hit the mark when he shot,
Through you the Imam hit his target precisely
and thus struck the rebel's vital spot.
So the transgressor in the morning met his death

You unveiled the face of truth, unchallenged,
You exposed the face of truth without defending yourself
when you spoke on the morning of that assembly.
When you spoke at the assembly that day

The lands brimmed with blessings when theMessenger’s
the envoy's blessing for them met the sender's blessing.
And your own good fortune converged

But who did not neglect His servant

My soul is yours to redeem, so hear my plea
lofty heights have always been my refuge from calamities.
Its abode is high above the strikes of fate

And even from afar, amid his weightiest business,
Though busy, your thoughts during long absence
he was not too busy to remember his humblest servant.
Were not distracted from your smallest servant

O you, miserly with your honor because you prize it,
O you who hoard not your honor’s riches
yet, when asked for gifts, never miserly.
So when asked for them, you do not refrain

Your hospitality overflows with delegations
unceasingly, for his bounty is a sweet watering-place.
Quenching seekers like a sweet well

You see him forestall their requests with gifts,
You give before asked, generously
in generosity like the unceasing downpour of morning clouds.
Like clouds pouring without reserve

And when a seeker comes to draw, he fulfills through bounty
When one in need arrives, you make
every wish, then says to him, "Ask."
Every wish real, then say “Ask!”

I did not praise you in pursuit of gifts; rather,
I do not praise seeking gifts, but bounty
access already gained spared me seeking an approach.
Reaching you needs no imploring

I see the rider spur his mount and prod
and the hasty rider's worn-out mount has been roused.
The hustle of one swiftly departing

Indeed, you renew your hospitality to guests
You renew generosity when guests leave
when the departing traveler sets out with his load.
As the resolute traveler moves on

That remainder is still outstanding, just as
What remains is as it was, its covenant unbroken
it was; the knot of its matter has not been untied.
Though its ties have not yet been unraveled

You have indeed guaranteed it, and your judgment alone
You alone will safeguard it, your view sufficient,
is means enough for me to gain it, even without your guarantee.
Even if you did not undertake its charge

So renew for it the regard of the generous; for
So tend it with your gracious gaze, for I rely
in obtaining it, I rely on you alone.
On none but you for its accomplishment

And I am the one who has no treasure in reserve but you,
I whose sole treasure is you, known before
for I have tested you in earlier days.
As one who stretched your favor to its ends

However I sought you, by whichever means
I found my lengthy pleas answered with overflowing generosity.
I found you indulging me beyond my hopes

So when I wanted standing, you handed it to me;
If I pursued status, you bestowed it on me
and when I wanted wealth, you bestowed it on me.
If I sought wealth, you fulfilled me

Whenever I drew a spark of learning, I found the greatest man of merit;
When I drew wisdom, I saw the greatest sage
and whenever I sought a gift, I found the noblest benefactor.
When I sought judgment, I saw the noblest arbiter

when so often I have returned with bounty I had not hoped for?
When have I returned unfilled from you

If I sought victory one heated day
you unsheathed every keen, polished blade in my defense.
You stripped for me every flashing blade

May you ever wear, from my fairest necklaces,
Still you dress me in necklaces like scattered pearls,
likenesses of pearls, set apart upon a string.
Assembled into a jewelry set

And may you keep striding proudly through the courts of happiness,
While you spend on me the days of bliss
and trailing the hems of the longest life.
And trail the robes of enduring glory
