مَقالةًa statement يَصْدُقُspeaks truthfully مَنwhoever قالهاutters it
Tell Amin al-Mulk, on behalf of his servant,
Tell the keeper of the kingdom, about his servant,
a statement whose speaker tells the truth:
Words that are true to whoever utters them.
أعنيI mean أباAbu (father of) حَرْبٍHarb حليفَally of العُلاthe heights
ومُبلِغَand one who brings الأقوامِthe peoples آمالَهاtheir hopes
I mean Abu Harb, ally of the heights,
I mean Abu Harb, ally of the sublime,
and who enables peoples to attain their hopes.
And conveyor of hopes to the people.
يَفتخِرُtakes pride المجدُglory بأنْin that حازَهُhe won it
وتَزدَهيand exults العَلياءُlofty eminence أنْthat نالهاhe attained it
Glory takes pride in his having won it,
Glory prides itself on attaining him,
and lofty eminence exults that he has attained it.
And the exalted flourish because he reached them.

غَيَّرتِhave changed الأيّامُthe days أحْوالهاtheir conditions
He remains steadfast in giving, although
Remaining as he was in his generosity, though
the days have changed their ways.
The days have changed their circumstances.
أَرْوعُawe-inspiring ماnot زالتْceased لهhe has هِمّةٌa lofty resolve
يَحارُis bewildered مَنwhoever شاهدَwitnessed أفضالهاits bounties
Awe-inspiring, he has always possessed a lofty resolve;
The most magnificent thing about him is an ambition
whoever witnesses its bounties is bewildered.
That bewilders whoever witnesses its virtues.
ألقَتْhave laid مُلوكُthe kings الأرضِof the earth فيin كَفِّهِhis palm
خَزائنَthe treasuries الدُّنياof the world وأَمْوالهاand its wealth
The kings of the earth have laid in his palm
The kings of the earth placed in his palm
the world's treasuries and its wealth.
The treasuries and riches of the world.
فكَفُّهso his palm مشغولةٌis occupied بالنَّدىwith generosity
تُبيحُmakes freely available ماwhatever تَملِكُit owns سُؤّالهاits petitioners
So his palm is busy with generosity,
So his palm was busy with bounty,
making whatever it owns freely available to its petitioners.
Permitting whatever its request encompasses.
فليسso it is not يوماًever حِفْظُهhis safeguarding of مالَهمْtheir wealth
أبلغَmore effective منthan تَضْييعِهhis squandering of مالهاits wealth
So his safeguarding of their wealth is never
Thus no day was his safeguarding of their wealth
more effective than his squandering of its wealth.
More effective than his squandering of his own.
