I said, when they said, “The head of Shams al-Mulk went forth

alone, traversing the broad backs of the deserts.”

We did not wish all this upon him; God knows

my conviction, and nothing is hidden from God.

But now, things being as they are, be patient,

and hope for good, for God suffices for the servant.

His head was only a node; it conjoined

a sun, which then gave warning of an eclipse.

And when the head parts from the sun, know:

the eclipse has been replaced by clarity.
