لَماwhen صفتgrew clear مِرآةmirror وَجهكyour face أَيقَنَتbecame certain
لَما صفت مِرآة وَجهك أَيقَنَت
عَينايَmy eyes إِنيthat I عُدتُI became فيكَin you خَيالاa reflection
عَينايَ إِني عُدتُ فيكَ خَيالا
When the mirror of your face grew clear, certain were
When the mirror described your face, my eyes were certain
my eyes that I had become a reflection in you.
That in you I had become but a mirage.
وَظَنَنتُand I thought أَهدابيmy eyelashes بِوَجهِكَon your face عارِضاًa sideburn
وَظَنَنتُ أَهدابي بِوَجهِكَ عارِضاً
وَحَسبتand I reckoned إِنسانيmy pupil بِخَدكon your cheek خالاa mole
وَحَسبت إِنساني بِخَدك خالا
And I took my lashes for a sideburn upon your face,
And I thought my lashes against your face a rebel,
and took my pupil for a mole upon your cheek.
And considered my being but a mole on your cheek.
