صالح لِلخَير لَما أَن بَنى

مُخلِصاً خانا بِفعل مُتقَنِ

مُخلِصاً خانا بِفعل مُتقَنِ

When Salih, devoted to good, built

Virtuous when he built it

a khan with sincere intent and masterful workmanship,

Sincere though he betrayed with skillful act

وَهُوَ والي الشام مَن أَضحى لَهُ

وَهُوَ والي الشام مَن أَضحى لَهُ

حسن ذكر في جَميع الأَلسُنِ

حسن ذكر في جَميع الأَلسُنِ

while governor of al-Sham, a man who had gained

He who became governor of Syria

good repute on every tongue,

Whose name was praised on all tongues

قالَ داعي البَشَر بَشَراً أَرخوا

قالَ داعي البَشَر بَشَراً أَرخوا

في سَبيل اللَه خان قَد بَني

في سَبيل اللَه خان قَد بَني

the herald of gladness said joyfully, 'Record the date:

Said the caller of good news with glad tidings

In God's cause, a khan has been built.'

In the way of God a caravanserai has been built
