We console Pride and Eminence over a lion cub,
We console excellence and nobility with Shibl,
whose death turned him aside from his hunt,
His dove distracted him from hunting,
وَطفلand a child وَهُوَand he أَكبَرthe greatest مَنone whom نَراهُwe see him

and over a child, yet the greatest of those we see,
And a boy though greater than he appears,
exalted in standing, his rank well known.
Of eminent dignity and established stature,
بَكَتهُwept for him ملئَthe full measure of أَعيُنِهاtheir eyes المَعاليthe heights of honor
وَقالَand said المَجدglory هاbehold أَناI ذاthis one غُلامهhis servant
The heights of honor wept for him with brimming eyes,
The heights wept their eyes full of him,
and Glory said, 'Here I am, his servant.'
And glory said, behold, I am his lad,
هِلالٌa crescent سَماsky المَكارمِnoble deeds غابَvanished عَنهاfrom it
وَثَغرُand the mouth الفَضلvirtue فارَقَهُdeparted from it اِبتِسامهits smile
A crescent in the sky of noble deeds vanished from it,
A crescent that excelled in magnanimity has disappeared from it,
and the mouth of Virtue lost its smile.
And the smile of merit has parted from its mouth.
