O, may my father be ransom for the sweet-voiced fawn!
O my father, the gentle breeze
His languid glance has made me ill.
Made me sick with his sick glance
مَبسمَهُhis smiling mouth وَاللَماand the lips’ dusky hue شَهيٌّdelectable
عَلَيهماover them both غلنيmy thirst (uncertain reading) تَحومhovers
His smiling mouth and his lips’ dusky hue are delectable.
His smile and his shy glance
Over them both my thirst hovers [uncertain reading].
Troubled me greatly

Ill fortune has kept me from him—
Ill fate kept me from him
Even Time cannot withstand a fraction of it.
Some life spans don't stand upright
وَيلايwoe is me مِنfrom أَينwhere ليfor me فُؤادa heart

Woe is me! Where can I find a heart
Woe to me, from where can I get a heart
To bear it, while the passion within me is immense?
That feels less, while my love is so great
تَوَقعتawaited مُقلَتيmy eye خَيالاًan apparition

My eye awaited an apparition,
My hopes pictured a fantasy
Yet what it sought from that proved elusive.
But greater than that is what you want
هبsuppose زارَنيvisited me مِنهُof him طَيفa dream-phantom
مِنfrom أَينwhere ليfor me ناظرan eye نُؤومgiven to much sleep
Suppose a dream-phantom of him visited me—
If he would visit me like a gentle blowing wind
Where can I find an eye that will sleep?
From where can I get a friendly eye to sleep
