O master, to whom Time is like a slave,
O master, time is like a slave to you
obedient, neither repeating nor initiating a thing.
Obedient, it no longer comes or goes

Yours are the fingertips that, when they write,
The letters you draw, when put together
erase the traces of error with right guidance.
Erase the marks of misguidance with righteousness

Their script deposits passages upon the page—
If laid on paper, their lines show only poverty
nothing but stars of good fortune.
Though they are but lucky stars

If one with a beauty mark beheld the tracing of their letters,
If the moles on your cheek could read their shape
he would go, touching his cheek with his palm.
Your palm would rush to touch your cheek

Had I not wished a boon for humankind,
If I did not wish a kindness for mankind
I would say, out of jealousy, 'I alone would ransom you.'
I would say, I sacrifice myself for you out of jealousy alone
