O gazelle who bears unsealed musk
O gazelle with musk so meek
in a mouth that puts pure wine to shame.
In a mouth that shames the sweetest drink

أَشتَكي غُربة تُسيء الصَديقا
Do not leave me—may my soul be your ransom—alone,
Don't leave me, your soul all alone
lamenting estrangement that grieves a friend.
I complain of loneliness that harms a friend

I go about, while in the chains of your temple-locks
I strive while shackled at my temples
my heart lies; so pity a captive who is free.
Free my heart - have mercy on a freed captive

Your blinking has wounded my mind
the pearls of my tears have turned to carnelian.
My teardrops became ruby out of this

If we spoke of your dusky lips in the presence of wine,
If we had mentioned you when joy was present
it would spend the night without finding anyone sober.
It would have slept and not found awakening

Dawn, dawn before the gloom of perception

Darkens from us or the darkest gloom

You saved me, flower of youth, and we play
where we find longing to be a lovely garden.
Where we meet passions in a meadow so fair

Between hope of our dreams and threat
from you, the lying one begs the truthful one for respite.
From you, lies await truths so sincere
