مَراميmy aim كُلall ماthat تَهوىyou desire مَراميmy aim
وَإِنand even though أَكُI be فيكَin you مَمنوعdenied المَراميthe aims
My aim—all that you desire is my aim.
My hopes are what you desire, my hopes
Even though, in you, I am denied my aims.
Though for me your hopes are forbidden
لَقَدindeed أَحرَمتَنيyou have denied me وَصلاًa union حَلالاًlawful
وَرُحتُand I went away مُقَلداًgarlanded بِدَمwith blood حَرامِforbidden to shed
You have indeed denied me a lawful union,
You have deprived me of permitted company
And I went away garlanded with blood forbidden to shed.
And I am left wearing a forbidden blood-debt
وَإِنand even though يَكُit be فيamong الوَرىhumankind أَزرىlower in esteem فَقَدريyet my worth
سَماrose يَسموrises سُمُوّاًa lofty rising فَهُوَso it is ساميlofty
And though it may be held lower among mortals, my worth
If in creation there is one more miserable, then it is my fate
Has risen, rises ever higher—thus it is lofty.
To rise high, however high, is my destiny
