أَشهىmore delightful إِلَيَّto me مِنthan الزُلالclear water عَلىin الظَماthirst
أَشهى إِلَيَّ مِن الزُلال عَلى الظَما
مَرآهُthe sight of him فيat الإِصباحdawn وَالإِمساءِand evening
مَرآهُ في الإِصباح وَالإِمساءِ
More delightful to me than clear water when thirsty
The one I desire more than fresh water
is the sight of him at dawn and evening.
At daylight or at dusk, I see his face
لَكنbut أَغضI lower الطَرفthe gaze عَنهُaway from him حَيثُماwherever
لَكن أَغض الطَرف عَنهُ حَيثُما
شَرقis choked الحِماthe protected precincts بِتَزاحُمwith the jostling of الرَقباءِthe watchers
شَرق الحِما بِتَزاحُم الرَقباءِ
Yet I avert my gaze from him wherever
But I avert my eyes from him always
the precincts are choked with jostling watchers.
When throngs of jealous rivals take their place
