رَعى اللَهُ دَهراً رَطيب الجَنا

وَصَفو المَشارع لِلشارِبِ
May God preserve a time whose fruit was fresh,
For an age God tended my fair garden,
And whose watering places were clear for the drinker;
And the streets were perfumed for the drinker,
وَعَصراًand an age بِهِin it كُنتI was غَضtender; fresh الشَباyouth (continued on the next line)
وَعَصراً بِهِ كُنت غَض الشَبا
بfinal letter of 'youth' وَحَبلبيand my rope (apparent typo) مُلقىcast; laid غَلىupon (apparent typo) غارِبيmy withers
ب وَحَبلبي مُلقى غَلى غارِبي
And an age when I was in the bloom of youth,
And that age when I was fresh youth,
And my rope lay cast over my withers;
My love tossed in me and knotted on my ribs.
أَجُرُI trail ذُيوليmy skirts فيin غِبطةbliss
أَجُرُ ذُيولي في غِبطة

وَأَخلس عَيشي بِلا حاجب
I trailed my skirts in bliss,
I dragged my skirts in happiness,
And snatched my enjoyment of life, with no gatekeeper.
And furtively enjoyed my life unveiled.
