إِنَّindeed سَمعhearing العُقولthe minds يَصغيlistens attentively لِقَولto the words of إِلاal- (beginning of the split name)
إِنَّ سَمع العُقول يَصغي لِقَول إِلا
سَطوانيIstuwani (continuation of the split name) وَالقُلوبand the hearts لَدَيهِwith him
سَطواني وَالقُلوب لَدَيهِ
Indeed, minds lend an ear to the words of al-
The minds' hearing is attentive to the word of none
Istuwani, and hearts are with him.
Except the eloquent and hearts are with him
جَمعhe gathered الفَضلexcellence وَالمَكارمand noble virtues حَتّىso that
جَمع الفَضل وَالمَكارم حَتّى
كُلevery حُسنىfine quality تَعزىis ascribed وَتَنمىand is traced إِلَيهِto him
كُل حُسنى تَعزى وَتَنمى إِلَيهِ
He gathered excellence and noble virtues, so that
The excellences and virtues all assembled
Every fine quality is ascribed and traced to him.
So that each beauty is attributed and grows from him
رَجُلٌa man جاءَcame فيin الزَمانtime أَخيراًlate
رَجُلٌ جاءَ في الزَمان أَخيراً
يَحسدenvies الأَولthe earlier age الأَخيرthe later age عَلَيهِon his account
يَحسد الأَول الأَخير عَلَيهِ
A man who came late in time—
A man has come in time finally
The earlier age envies the later for having him.
The first and last envy each other over him
