إِذا رَأَيت أُناساً
نَسواthey forgot الدِيارthe abodes العَظيمهgrand
نَسوا الدِيار العَظيمه
If you see people
When you see people
who have forgotten the grand abodes,
Who have forgotten their great homes
تَهالكواthey threw themselves headlong بِانهماكwith utter absorption
تَهالكوا بِانهماك
عَلىinto الأُمورthe pursuits الذَميمهreprehensible
عَلى الأُمور الذَميمه
and thrown themselves headlong, utterly engrossed,
And are immersed in
into reprehensible pursuits,
Wicked matters
مثلهمliken them بكلابto dogs
مثلهم بكلاب
فيat بابdoor أَهلhosts of وليمهa feast
في باب أَهل وليمه
liken them to dogs
They are like dogs
at the door of those holding a feast;
At the door of a feast
وَمالهاand they have no مِنany مَرامaim
وَمالها مِن مَرام
إِلّاexcept العِظامthe bones الرَميمهdecaying
إِلّا العِظام الرَميمه
and they have no aim
With no purpose
but decaying bones.
But gnawing on bones
