أستَغفر اللَه مِني حَيث ما هَجست

أستَغفر اللَه مِني حَيث ما هَجست

هَواجس النَفس في شَيء مِن الطَلَب

هَواجس النَفس في شَيء مِن الطَلَب

I seek God's forgiveness for myself whenever there stir

I ask Allah's forgiveness wherever my mind stirs,

The soul's promptings in pursuit of anything.

The cravings of the soul desiring anything,

فَإِنَّها الأَيم إِن سارَت وَإِن وَقفت

فَإِنَّها الأَيم إِن سارَت وَإِن وَقفت

فَلَيسَ إِلّا لما تَخفيهِ مِن عطب

فَلَيسَ إِلّا لما تَخفيهِ مِن عطب

For it is a serpent, whether it moves or stands still;

For verily it is blameworthy whether it proceeds or halts,

It does so only for the ruin it conceals.

Save for what faults it conceals from view.
