قَدalready ظَنَhe thought أَنَّهُthat he عَظيمgreat
قَد ظَنَ أَنَّهُ عَظيم
صارَhe became كَماas تَرىعِظاماyou see, bones
صارَ كَما تَرىعِظاما
He had thought that he was great.
He thought he was so great,
He became, as you see, bones.
Now he's just bones, as you can see.
وَقَدand indeed رَأىhe saw ماجدnoble كَريمgenerous
وَقَد رَأى ماجد كَريم
وَالدهُhis father لَيلُهُhis night مَلاماreproach
وَالدهُ لَيلُهُ مَلاما
And a noble, generous man saw
And Majid the generous saw
His father—his night a reproach.
His father scolding him that night.
وَقالَand he said يَفقدhe loses بَعدَafter حينa while
وَقالَ يَفقد بَعدَ حين
فيin عامa year أَرختهُI dated it غُلاماa boy
في عام أَرختهُ غُلاما
And he said he would lose after a while,
He said "After a while, you will miss me"
In a year I dated with “a boy.”
In a year when I was but a lad.
