O paradise, you left lovers’ hearts

writhing in fire with grief after your passing.

Before your burial in the earth, I never thought

that graves were dwelling places for moons.

Alas for a light the hand of death has plucked

from your cheeks and your bewitching gaze,

and for beauty’s water, forcibly drained away after

it had flowed through every limb of yours.

Would that our eyes and our hearts had ransomed you

and taken the place of the earth and stones.
