لاdo not تَغتَررbe beguiled بِشَبابكby your youth الغَضtender الَّذيwhose
لا تَغتَرر بِشَبابك الغَض الَّذي
أَيامُهُits days قَمرa moon يَلوحappears وَيأفلُand sets
أَيامُهُ قَمر يَلوح وَيأفلُ
Do not be beguiled by your tender youth, whose
Do not be deceived by your youthful vigor which
days are a moon that appears and sets.
Its days are a moon that waxes and wanes
وَدَعand give up أَتباعfollowing النَفسthe self عَنكَaway from you فَأَنماfor indeed
وَدَع أَتباع النَفس عَنكَ فَأَنما
حُبlove الجَمالbeauty الصَبرrestraint عَنهُfrom it أَجمَلُmore beautiful
حُب الجَمال الصَبر عَنهُ أَجمَلُ
And give up following your desires, for
And leave off pursuit of desire, for truly
abstaining from the love of beauty is lovelier.
Patience with beauty is more beautiful
نَعمyes العُيونthe eyes الفاتِكاتdeadly قَواتِلٌkillers
نَعم العُيون الفاتِكات قَواتِلٌ
لَكنbut سِهامarrows اللَهGod مِنهاthan them اقتلُdeadlier
لَكن سِهام اللَه مِنها اقتلُ
Yes, the deadly eyes are killers,
Truly alluring are the deadly eyes
but God's arrows are deadlier than they.
But arrows of God are more deadly still
