Rest the mounts of wishes, and abandon the quest.

Nothing remains in life that warrants toil.

Experience has made things known to me,

Leaving me, then, no desire for anything.

My good manners have always barred me from what I sought,

Until, by my life, I began to hate good manners.

How long will the one I am plagued with plant for me

The seedlings of promises, while my hope reaps lies?

If I cry, 'Alas, my scabies!' to Time, seeking

Help from it, Time replies, 'Alas, my ruin!'
