إِنعَمtake pleasure بِعَيشكin your life وَاِغنَمand make the most of ماwhat حَييتyou live بِهِon it
إِنعَم بِعَيشك وَاِغنَم ما حَييت بِهِ
فَالطيبfor perfume يُنبيءtells عَنهُof it حُسنthe goodness مَخبرهof its inner nature
فَالطيب يُنبيء عَنهُ حُسن مَخبره
Enjoy your life and make the most of what sustains you;
For perfume is known by its fine essence.
لَمhas not يَدرknown لذةthe delight نَعماهُof his blessings الشَحيحthe miser كَماjust as
لَم يَدر لذة نَعماهُ الشَحيح كَما
لَمhas not يَدرِknown عودa stalk نَباتof a plant طَعمthe taste سُكرهof its sugar
لَم يَدرِ عود نَبات طَعم سُكره
The miser has not known the delight of his blessings, just as
A plant’s stalk has not known the taste of its sugar.
