بِذاتِكَby your very being طابَتgrew sweet فيin الوُجودexistence العَناصِرُthe elements
بِذاتِكَ طابَت في الوُجود العَناصِرُ
وَقَرَّتand were gladdened عُيونeyes واِطمَأَنَتand grew tranquil سَرائِرُinnermost hearts
وَقَرَّت عُيون واِطمَأَنَت سَرائِرُ
By your very being, the elements of existence have grown sweet.
With your essence the elements rejoiced in existence
And eyes have been gladdened, and innermost hearts have found peace.
And eyes became content and secrets reassured
وَأَيسَرand the simplest وَصفdescription مِنof جَميلكyour kindness دَوحةa spreading tree
وَأَيسَر وَصف مِن جَميلك دَوحة
يَجولroams بِهاwithin it فكرthought وَيَرتَعand grazes freely ناظِرُan eye
يَجول بِها فكر وَيَرتَع ناظِرُ
And the simplest description of your kindness is a spreading tree,
And the easiest description of your beauty is an inkpot
where thought roams and the eye grazes freely.
That thoughts roam with and the onlooker grazes
سَقَيتyou watered رِياضgardens الشُكرgratitude منيfrom me مَآثِراًnoble deeds
سَقَيت رِياض الشُكر مني مَآثِراً
تَفتحopen مِنهاfrom them بِالثَناءِthrough praise أَزاهِرُflowers
تَفتح مِنها بِالثَناءِ أَزاهِرُ
You watered my gardens of gratitude with noble deeds;
You have watered the gardens of gratitude with my exploits
from them, flowers open in praise.
From which flowers of praise bloom
أَزورI visit وَظِليand my shadow لاno سِواهُother than it مُصاحِبيmy companion
أَزور وَظِلي لا سِواهُ مُصاحِبي
حماكyour protected domain فَتَثنينيthen you send me back وَحَوليand around me عَشائِرُclans
حماك فَتَثنيني وَحَولي عَشائِرُ
I come, with only my shadow for company,
I visit while my shadow is my only companion
to your domain; you send me back with clans around me.
Protecting me, so you bend me, and my family and tribe are around me
إِذاwhen زُرتI visit خففlessen مِنof عَطاياكyour gifts إِنَّهُindeed it
إِذا زُرت خفف مِن عَطاياك إِنَّهُ
لِيثقلsurely weighs down ظَهريmy back جودِكَyour generosity المُتَكاثِرُever-increasing
لِيثقل ظَهري جودِكَ المُتَكاثِرُ
When I visit, lessen your gifts, for indeed
When I visit lighten your gifts, verily
your ever-growing generosity surely weighs down my back.
Your abundant generosity weighs down my back
وَماand not أَناI مَنone who يَأبىrefuses نداكyour bounty وَإِنَّماbut rather
وَما أَنا مَن يَأبى نداك وَإِنَّما
يَملّgrows weary مِنof السحبthe clouds الثِقالheavy المُسافِرُthe traveler
يَملّ مِن السحب الثِقال المُسافِرُ
And I am not one to refuse your bounty; it is only that
And I am not one who refuses your companionship, but
the traveler grows weary of heavy clouds.
The heavily laden traveler tires of clouds
كَفانيَit suffices me عزّاًas honor إِنَّنيthat I بِكَin you لائِذٌseeking refuge
كَفانيَ عزّاً إِنَّني بِكَ لائِذٌ
وَحَسبُكَand enough for you فَخراًas glory إِنَّنيthat I لَكَfor you شاعِرُa poet
وَحَسبُكَ فَخراً إِنَّني لَكَ شاعِرُ
It is honor enough for me that I seek refuge in you,
It suffices me pride that I take refuge in you
and glory enough for you that I am your poet.
And it is enough pride that I am your poet
