فَجَعتهُ فَيمن قَد بَناهُ منونُ
Who will tell the prince's palace that
Death has bereaved it of the man who built it?

I have lodged him, after he trod upon the star Suha,
In a grave, where he has become a captive.

May the gardens not flourish there after him,
Ever again, nor may branches sway within them.

And may ceaseless morning rain forsake its traces,
And tears [perhaps: were shed] for it, though held in reserve.

And though it is empty of him, between my ribs
A dwelling for him remains inhabited for all time.

It stood deserted, and desolation enveloped every palace;
He departed, and each was overtaken by lamentation.

Time wears away, yet his memory is ever renewed;
Indeed, time is bound up with his excellence.

And all glory in anyone else is abasement;
And every seat of honor in assemblies is inferior.

So may a downpour from the clouds of virtues water him,
Pouring incessantly upon that tomb.
