قُلsay لِلَّذيto him who تَبعfollowed الغِوايةwaywardness وَالهَوىand desire
قُل لِلَّذي تَبع الغِواية وَالهَوى
كَهلاًas a middle-aged man وَشَيخاًand as an old man فيin زَمانa time of صَباءِyouthful infatuation
كَهلاً وَشَيخاً في زَمان صَباءِ
Say to the one who followed error and desire,
Say to him who followed waywardness and desire,
Through maturity and old age, in a season of youthful passion:
In middle age and old age, in a time of youthful infatuation:
أَلقيتyou cast جَوهرةthe jewel of الفُؤادthe heart وَأَنَّهاand it is
أَلقيت جَوهرة الفُؤاد وَأَنَّها
لَثَمينةindeed precious بِقمامةinto the refuse of الأَهواءِpassions
لَثَمينة بِقمامة الأَهواءِ
You cast away the jewel of the heart, though surely
You cast the jewel of the heart—though it
It is precious, into the refuse heap of passions.
Is indeed precious—into the refuse of passions.
