كَمhow many ضَمتhas embraced الترباءthe earth خَلقاًpeople قَبلَناbefore us
كَم ضَمت الترباء خَلقاً قَبلَنا
مِنamong آخرa later one يَقفوfollows سَبيلthe path of الأَولthe earlier one
مِن آخر يَقفو سَبيل الأَول
How many people the earth has embraced before us,
How many righteous souls has the earth embraced before us,
Each later one following the path of the earlier,
From the last one who treads the path of the first.
حَتّىuntil كَأنas though أَديمهاits surface مِماfrom what حَوَتit has held
حَتّى كَأن أَديمها مِما حَوَت
حَباتkernels of أَفئِدةthe hearts of المُلوكthe kings العدّلjust
حَبات أَفئِدة المُلوك العدّل
Until, from what it has held, its surface seems
It seems as if its surface is made up,
To be the kernels of the hearts of just kings.
Of the particles of the hearts of just kings.
