كَغُصنيlike two boughs of بانةa bān tree بِتناwe spent the night اِعتِناقاًembracing
كَغُصني بانة بِتنا اِعتِناقاً
مِنof الوَردthe roses الجَنيّfreshly gathered عَلىon فِراشa bed
مِن الوَرد الجَنيّ عَلى فِراش
Like two boughs of a bān tree, we spent the night embracing,
Like two branches we bent, embracing,
On a bed of freshly gathered roses.
From the luscious rose upon the bed.
كَأَناas though we فيin ضَميرthe heart of اللَيلthe night سرٌّa secret
كَأَنا في ضَمير اللَيل سرٌّ
وَلَيسَand there was not سِوىanything but فَتيقthe released scent of المسكmusk فاشيspreading abroad
وَلَيسَ سِوى فَتيق المسك فاشي
As though we were a secret in the heart of night,
As though in the conscience of night a secret -
And nothing spread abroad but the released scent of musk.
Naught but the musk's scent spreading wide.
