فَركوبُهُ فَوقَ المَنابِرِ أَعجَبُ
Were you astonished that Ibn Hazm rode a mule?
You have marveled that the son of Hazm rode a she-mule,
For his mounting the pulpits is more astonishing.
Yet his riding atop the pulpits is more wondrous.
وَعَجِبتَand you were astonished أَنthat جَعَلَappointed ابنson of حَزمٍHazm حاجِباًa chamberlain
وَعَجِبتَ أَن جَعَلَ ابن حَزمٍ حاجِباً
سُبحانَglory be to مَنthe One who جَعَلَmade ابنَson of حَزمٍHazm يُحجَبُis screened from visitors
سُبحانَ مَن جَعَلَ ابنَ حَزمٍ يُحجَبُ
And you were astonished that Ibn Hazm appointed a chamberlain!
You were astonished that the son of Hazm was made a chamberlain,
Glory be to Him who had Ibn Hazm screened from visitors!
Glory to Him who made the son of Hazm veiled.
