بِلِقاًfor a meeting إِذاwhen نَجمُthe star الثُرَيّاthe Pleiades حَلَّقاrose high
Of two lovers who exchanged messages and agreed
Two lovers who corresponded and made a tryst
to meet when the star of the Pleiades rose high.
To meet when the Pleiades star rose high
بَعَثاthey sent أَمامَهُماahead of them both مَخَافَةَfor fear of رقبَةٍsurveillance

They sent ahead of them, for fear of being watched,
They sent ahead a watchman for their necks’ protection
a lookout, who drove away from them whatever he drove away.
To keep guard, but he tore them from each other anyway
باتاthey spent the night بِأَنعَمِin the most blissful لَيلَةٍnight وَأَلَذِّهاand its most delightful
حَتّىuntil إِذاwhen وَضَحَgrew bright الصَباحُthe morning تَفَرَّقاthey parted
They spent the most blissful and delightful of nights,
They spent the night’s most blissful, sweetest hours
until, when morning grew bright, they parted.
Until dawn’s light broke clearly and they went their separate ways
